The Percepta Framework
Percepta is how we make accessibility real. Most teams treat accessibility as a checklist at the end of a project. Percepta treats it as a design material from the first sketch: present in every decision, tested by people who use assistive technology every day, and verified before anything ships.
It is not a product you buy. It is the method behind everything we build, audit, and manage: our software projects ship with it, our audits measure against it, and our managed IT clients benefit from it every day.
The five principles
1. Perceivable
Information must reach every sense. Text alternatives for images, captions for audio, colour that never carries meaning alone, and contrast that holds in sunlight. If a person cannot perceive it, it does not exist for them.
2. Operable
Everything must work by keyboard, by voice, and by switch device, not just by mouse. Visible focus, logical tab order, no traps, generous timing. If a person cannot operate it, it is decoration, not a tool.
3. Understandable
Interfaces must behave predictably. Clear language, consistent navigation, labels that say what things do, errors that explain how to fix them. If a person cannot understand it, the design failed, not the person.
4. Robust
Code must work with the assistive technology people actually use today, and keep working tomorrow. Valid semantic markup, honest ARIA, tested with real screen readers. If it only works in one browser with one tool, it is fragile.
5. Human-verified
Automated tools catch roughly 13% of WCAG 2.2 AA criteria. The rest needs a person. Our founder, who is blind, personally tests with a screen reader and keyboard, because lived experience finds what scanners miss. If no human verified it, it is not done.
How Percepta shows up in our work
- Software we build: every project is architected against the five principles from the first sprint, then human-tested before launch. Our software engineering
- Accessibility audits: findings mapped to the principles, so your team sees patterns instead of a pile of disconnected issues. Our accessibility audits
- Managed IT: the tools we deploy for your team are chosen and configured to be perceivable, operable, and understandable for everyone on staff. Our managed IT
Why it matters
Accessible technology is better technology for everyone. Clear navigation, readable text, forms that actually work: every user benefits, not only people with disabilities. And when WCAG 2.2 AA and AODA compliance are designed in from day one, you avoid the expensive retrofits that come from bolting accessibility on at the end.
